General Information
Na Wa (Nawa, Nahwa, นาหว้า) is the name of
a county (Mubaan) as well as of a village situated between Sakon Nakhon (Sakonnakhon สกลนคร)(43
km) and Si Songkhram (25 km), situated in the Changwat Isaan. It is administered by the province Nakhon Phanom (approx.
55 km) in Pak Isaan. Nakhoon Yai (นาคูณใหญ่) and Nakhoon Noi are administered
by the county (amphoe) of Na Wa which is located 4 km farther north. The climate is tropical-monsun, the warmest
months are in July and August (40° C). The coldest months are in November through January (30° C). The area ist geographically located
upon the Khorat plateau. The vegetation is tropical, e.g. mango and banana fruits. The traffic infrastucture
consists of the two highways (now partly enlightend at night) and bus lines. The economic factors are plainly agriculture
(rice crop and buffaloes). A small portion industry consists of handcrafted silk yarn, silk garmets and traditional
bamboo rice boxes. There is no tourism at all. Used water is only roughly purified in Na Wa. Even the locals drink industrial
water. There's a fixed telephone line provided by TOT. There's also a sufficent cellular phone network in this area (GSM 1800 standard).
Wired DSL is not available (one has to use Sky-DSL).
The area measures 523.2 km²; the population of the county is 73,784 (2000); the one of the city of Na
Wa amounts to 20,000. The population of Nakhoon Yai amounts to 1,000. The population of Nakhoon Noi amounts to 500 (estimated
figures). The county has 141 inhabitans per km². The places are highly infected by the stream of short time
emigration to the rich South so you hardly see any people aged 20 to 40 y.o.
Chief of Administration ("Ok ponn scho") of the county is Khun Sutha Thammamnanusut
(mayors are not existing at that level). Na Wa hosts a Buddhist temple, several grade, middle and high
schools, a police station and a public hospital, which rarely meets western standards.

Gemeinde (Mubaan) und und eines Dorfes zwischen der Stadt Sakon Nakhon (Sakonnakhon สกลนคร)(43
km) und der Stadt Si Songkhram (25 km) im Changwat Isaan. Sie wird von der Provinz Nakhon Phanom (ca.
55 km) im Pak Isaan verwaltet. Nakhoon Yai (นาคูณใหญ่) und Nakhoon Noi
werden vom Kreis (amphoe) Na Wa verwaltet, der 4 km entfernt ist. Das Klima is tropisch-monsunal;
die wärmsten Monate herrschen im Juli und August (40° C). Die kälstesten sind von November bis Januar (30°
C). Die Gegend liegt auf dem Khorat-Plateau. Die Vegetation ist tropisch; hier wachsen z.B. Bananen-
und Mango-Bäume. Die Verkehrsinfrastruktur besteht aus zwei Landstraßen
(die seit 2003 bei Dunkelheit illuminiert sind) und einer reginalen Busverbindung. Ökonomisch ist
die Landwirtschaft dominant (Reisanbau und Viehhaltung). Ein kleiner Teil macht das Handwerk aus (Textilproduktion wie
Seidengewinnung, Seidenweberei, Kleidungsproduktion) - und die Herstellung von Reis-Behältern aus Bambus .
Tourismus existiert hier überhaupt nicht. Sehr selten sieht man hier einen Vetreter
der kaukasischen Rasse. Diese kommen nur, um die Familien ihrer Freundinnen oder Ehefrauen zu besuchen. Trinkwasser
gibt es nur in Na Wa, was jedoch für Nicht-Asiaten nicht genießbar ist.
Die Telefonleitung wird von TOT bereitgestellt. Das Mobilfunknetz (GSM 1800-Standard) ist jedoch überall verfügbar.
Das Gebiet mißt 523,2 km²; die Bevölkerung zählt 73.784 (2000); in der Stadt Na Wa leben ca. 20.000. Im Dorf Nakhoon Yai leben
etwa 1.000 Menschen; in Nakhoon Noi leben etwa 500 Personen (jeweils geschätzt). Der Kreis hat eine Bevölkerungsdichte
von einem Bewohner auf 141 km². Die Ortschaften sind von der vorübergenden Landflucht in die Ballungs- und Touristenzentren
betroffen. Man sieht hier kaum Personen zwischen 20 und 40 J. Verwaltungschef ist
Khun Sutha Thammamnanusut (etwa ein Bürgermeister). Na Wa beheimatet einen buddhistischen Tempel, verschiedene
große Schulen, ein öffentliches Krankenhaus und zwei Polizeistationen.
